as quoted by the Indianapolis Art Center :

“my work explores the connection between the subconscious and conscious mind that i find in creating art, but especially working on the wheel, has on us as humans. the thoughts that come through the processes of clay in both myself and my students i push to be explored slowly with support at every step. i believe that expression through art is a human right, and i hope to remove some of the boundaries placed to make that art a privilege.”

i am a teaching ceramic artist currently practicing in indianapolis, IN. after one class in 2019 through the indianapolis art center, i rediscovered ceramics and the many emotions wrapped up in creating.

in a world that largely encourages and facilitates dissociation as a means to cope with life’s inevitable challenges, i view art making as a wholly therapeutic form of active meditation which reveals truths i otherwise may avoid sitting with. i strive to explore, understand, accept, and utilize my unique idiosyncrasies, allowing for the formation of new neural pathways and ways of being my more authentic self.

through my artistic practice i seek to process what spins on my mind’s wheel while hopefully conveying to my students the power that this knowledge provides, along with providing a safe space for them to do the same on their own wheels.

each piece that i create, be it a therapeutic piece or one where i am simply exploring form, function, and design, is a tangible representation of one’s ability to embrace forces both within and outside of our control — and the self-awareness that can be found in that often all too nuanced space.
